ACA marketplace subsidy income limits by coverage year, household size and state group
The dollar income limits that decide whether a household qualifies for an ACA premium tax credit, for each coverage year, each household size from 1 to 8, and each of the three federal poverty guideline schedules (48 contiguous states and DC, Alaska, Hawaii). Each record states the poverty guideline the marketplace actually applies to that coverage year, the dollar figures at the 100%, 138%, 150%, 200%, 250%, 300% and 400% marks, the share of income the household is expected to pay at the top of the scale, and whether a hard cutoff applies above 400%. The enhanced credits created by the American Rescue Plan Act and extended by the Inflation Reduction Act lapsed on 31 December 2025, so coverage year 2026 was the first year since 2020 in which a household above 400% of the poverty line received no credit at all. No single page states these dollar figures. HHS publishes the poverty guidelines without the ACA multiples; the IRS publishes the applicable percentages without any dollar amounts; and the marketplace applies the guidelines published before open enrollment opened, not the guidelines bearing the coverage year's own number, which is the step most secondary sources get wrong. Answers 'what is the income limit for marketplace insurance in [year]', 'what is 400% of the federal poverty level for a family of [n]', 'how much can I earn and still get an Obamacare subsidy', 'what is the subsidy cliff', and 'what percentage of income do I have to pay for a benchmark plan'.
